Now… I’m a proud oldhead, but I’ve noted before that I still fux with new music when I like it. Such is the case with 50 Cent’s new mixtape, Forever King. Well, technically it’s old music with Fif rappin’ over it, but he “gets it in” here much more than he did on that single he dropped a few months ago. This new one is the sequel to his Sincerely Yours, Southside mixtape from last year, where he rhymed over his favorite ’80s R&B joints. Here, he rhymes over some of his faves from the ’90s.
Who knows if he’ll ever drop another good album, but big salute for this one right here. Who else in ‘09 has the gumption to rhyme over songs by Christopher Williams and Jeff Redd? And yeah, I know- the cover is all kinds of wack. But when you think about it, so was The Chronic’s, and yet no one complains. Just check it out and tell me I’m wrong.

the Joell one was dope, but gets old really fast… it’s just verse, verse, verse, verse, verse… i like the Skillz one a lil’ more tho’. I thought 50 was gonna go in a lil’ more w/ the 90s joints, but still some interesting choices.
